The Office of Health Ministry is dedicated to empowering parishioners to integrate health into all aspects of their lives-body, mind and spirit- to continue the tradition of Jesus healing ministry of addressing injustices, relieving suffering and isolation and personal stewardship of one’s body.
Health Ministry Goals and Interface with other Offices
The Goals of Health Ministry are:
- Establish a Council of parish Nurses/Health Ministers for ongoing formation committed to empower them to plan for parish/community needs.
- Sponsor at least one Parish Nurse Preparation a year in the Diocese.
- Visit with each pastor and parish nurse/health minister to support and encourage the furthering of health ministries.
- Sponsor training in developing Health Ministry in each Vicariate.
- Offer an annual conference on health.
- Form a Council for persons with disabilities for statewide coordination of activities among parishes and other offices.
- Partner with groups who support education and advocacy for those with mental illness with assist and input from YYA and Campus Ministry.
- Establish a web site that will address resources for all area of health ministry including links to other agencies and education.
- Provide access to information and training for disaster preparedness to parishes, schools and CCS.
- Help coordinate caregiver support in times of crises.
