Prayers for Vocations

O Father, you desire all of us to be happy. Stir up the grace of a religious vocation in the hearts of many men and women. Grant to them the willingness and generosity to give of themselves, their lives, their time and their talents to the service of Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord and Savior, and to His Holy Church. May more men and women go forth as priests, deacons, brothers and sisters to bring the truths of our Catholic faith to all others so that soon they, too, may know You better and love You more...and serving You, be truly happy. Amen.

O Lord, help me know your will for me Let your light shine in the depths of my heart that I may know what you want me to do with my life. Help me believe that you have a special plan for me. Lord, I know I pass through this life only once; help me decide how you want me to make a difference. Like our Blessed Mother, give me the wisdom to hear your voice and the courage to answer your call. Above all give me peace of mind and heart. I offer this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Message from the Vocation Director

Rev. Paul A. Hudock
Every Christian must continually ask the question “What is God calling me to do next?” When life provides us will plenty of signposts for how to best move forward, then such discernment is easy. Decisions can be more difficult when the stakes are higher.

One of the most profound passages of scripture can be found in the book of the prophet Jeremiah, in his letter to the Exiles in Babylon. “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” Jer 29:11. If God indeed has a plan for us, then we can rest assured that He will guide us along the way. We must keep our eyes and ears attuned to Him and approach the questions of life with faith that is open to His will.

As we listen to the Lord we have a lot of company. Flannery O’Conner described Catholicism as “Here comes everyone!” The Catholic faith is not an isolated or hidden organization. Catholics are everywhere in the world and in every part of our society. Parish communities throughout the state of West Virginia have a visible presence in our towns and rural settings. The purpose of this website is to highlight the work of vocation discernment that is occurring among the people of our Diocese. If you would like to discuss your call to serve the Lord, then contact me via email phudock@dwc.org

Finally, I encourage you to pursue daily personal prayer, frequent reception of the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation, regular spiritual direction, and active involvement in a local parish and service opportunities sponsored by the Church. Please stay close to Mary through prayer of the rosary and other devotions. All of these practices will deepen your knowledge of the Lord’s plans for you.

Sincerely in Christ,
